Prince William will represent the COP30 climate summit in South America in the coming weeks, according to royal officials.

The father and son duo made a joint appearance on Thursday night at a gathering ahead of the climate summit, which is scheduled to take place in the northern Brazilian city of Belem.

The King and Prince were present at the museum gathering, marking an unusual joint appearance at a climate summit preparatory event organized in partnership with the British authorities.

Climate Leadership Dedication

The King has been a longstanding advocate of biodiversity preservation - and Prince William has inherited the mission, with his own climate innovation awards, which will be held in Brazil preceding the COP summit.

Palace insiders have described William's involvement at the forthcoming conference as taking on an crucial position in "climate diplomacy".

Previous Activities

The monarch and his heir, arriving together in the state Bentley, were greeted attendees such as conservation experts, scientists, climate change campaigners, foreign representatives and government officials.

This participation involved presentations in concert with President Emmanuel Macron of the French Republic and other international figures at the Ocean Finance Summit in Monaco during the current year.

Earthshot Awards Connection

The UN meeting will align with the the royal's climate innovation prizes, which will wrap up in the Brazilian city the day before he participates in the COP summit on 6 November.

Last week the royal figure characterized the prize competitors as "contemporary champions".

Monarch's Environmental Record

The King has been a prominent presence at previous climate summits, providing the introductory remarks in the United Arab Emirates for COP28, including the observation: "Our responsibility is to protect the world we inhabit".

"I have spent a substantial portion of my life trying to warn of the existential threats challenging our world over climate change, climate change and species extinction," the sovereign addressed delegates.
